give it its charm and character. You can visit the Renaissance church of Saint Mary, built in 1578 in the form of a fortress which are very rare

Starigrad (Pharos) is the oldest town on the island and one of the oldest in Europe. It was founded by the Ionian Greeks from
the island of Pharos in 385 BC when they began to colonize the island. |

Jelsa ...................................
Jelsa, is situated in the central part of island Hvar. Jelsa borders with the two highest peaks on the Island - St. Nikola in
the west and Hum in the east. Jelsa has a rich tradition in tourism. The first hotel, Jadran, was built in 1911. Today Jelsa is an important tourist
centre. Major attractions of this popular seaside resort include various, sports and recre-ational opportunities - tennis courts, tennis camp, golf,
boccia courts, water sports, diving school. Excursions are regularly organized to Bol, Makarska, etc. Occasional cultural and entertainment
programmes are organized in the summer months. The major event is the ''Days of Antun Dobronic'' (20th of July - 20th of August). |
